LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK CELEBRATION AT ZION

“Lutheran Schools – Securing Each Child’s Future – For a Life of Service”

Zion Lutheran School will set aside the week of March 7-12  to celebrate “National Lutheran Schools Week.”  This celebration is held annually to call attention to the qualities of Lutheran schools.

With a total enrollment of 270,912in preschools through high schools, the schools reported that 3,592 of their students and 2,198 of their parents or other adult family members were baptized during the 2008-2009 school year.  These numbers show that our schools are a mission outreach.  Missouri Synod congregations operate the largest Protestant school system in the United States.

The theme of this year’s “National Lutheran Schools Week” is “Securing Each Child’s Future – For a Life of Service” based on 1 Corinthians 12:5

“There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.”

Lutherans have established schools in the United States since 1640.  The reasons for opening and maintaining these schools has varied across the country and throughout history.  All can be traced to some or all of these reasons:

·        To nurture faith

·        To grow in grace and knowledge

·        To teach the Word

·        To communicate and establish Christian values

·        To equip for Christian service

·        To reach out with the Gospel to others

We especially thank God for the qualities of Lutheran schools:  the faith nurturing that happens in a Christ-centered environment, our caring, Christian teachers, challenging curricula and a small teacher-to-student ratio.

Special thanks to our congregation for their ongoing support of our children.
