May 12, 2008 Knowing Jesus, Growing in Faith, Serving God’s Children Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a blessed Mother’s Day! The marigold plants do well outside as soon as the threat of frost is over. We had fun tending them! I hope you enjoyed those wonderful letters! They all came up with different things to tell their mom! They also wrote letters to Senora Casey on Friday, as that was her last time with us for Spanish. This week they’ll write letters to Jack’s grandpa, to their elderly friends, and to Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Osborn. Writing letters is a wonderful skill and so that’s what we’re emphasizing right now in Writer’s Workshop. This Wednesday at 2PM we are having a Volunteer Appreciation Concert. We want to thank all volunteers, including parents and family members. Please come. We’ll have all kinds of music and cookies, too! Please let anyone in your family know about this! Our last two weeks of Kindergarten are here! We’ll use them to review some of our favorite activities and do a few new ones, too. We’re busy with end of the year assessments, too, so not many papers will come home. I save some of their last work for their portfolios. These move on with them to first grade and will be added to each year. This Friday is our Track Meet with other Christian schools at the School of Mine’s track. The children need to come directly to the track by 8:45AM. It lasts until about 2PM. This year the girls will have their running events first, in the morning, while the boys have their field event in the morning. Then as soon as all the girls’ running events are finished, around 11:30, it switches to the boys’ running events and the girls’ field events. It is a long day for the little ones, even though it’s fun. Send sunscreen, layers of clothes, snacks, water and a lunch. The concession is supposed to be open, too. I’ll be busy taking our class to running events, so I’ll ask for help taking our kids to the field events. Watch for our sea of green shirts to know where to sit! Be sure to wear your Zion shirt that day! I’ll send a note home with this telling you what events your child is in, usually two running events and one field event. Mrs. Winjue places them in their events. A few will also run in a relay. Next Friday, May 23rd, is our graduation at 8:30, with chapel first and our graduation right afterwards. We hope you can come. The children will receive their diplomas and their school Bibles will be presented. Refreshments will follow. After this I will take the group back to the room, but if anyone doesn’t want to come back at 11:15 when we end they are free to take them after graduation. Our butterflies should come out of their chrysalids this week! We enjoyed watching them change from caterpillars into chrysalids. We will let them go before school gets out. We will also make lifecycle posters to show what we learned. Next week we’ll put together a summer calendar to bring home. It’ll have fun little things to do during the summer to help keep them busy. Don’t let them get rusty. Encourage writing notes, lists, using numbers, etc. This week someone comes to share with us about the summer reading program at the public library. You can get their reading log at the library or online. Their program begins June 1st. This would be a great time to get that first library card! Keep them reading every day! We go to Bear Country next Tuesday afternoon from 12:45 to 2:45PM. Let me know if you can drive. Vacation Bible School begins Monday, June 2nd and runs that entire week. Plan on bringing friends, too! It begins at 9AM and goes to noon. I’ll be there! Report cards will go home the last day of school. Send backpacks every day to put all their things in. I’ll try to send some things home every day to make it easier to carry! I hope to get a CD of pictures made for each of you before the end of the year! God’s blessings, Roxi Withee
