Dear Parents:

Enclosed you will find a list of recommended reading for the summer months. Please use the Reading Journal pages to keep track of the books that you have read.

We hope that your child can read at least 20 books during the summer vacation. You and your child are asked to choose fifteen books from the enclosed list and five books of their own choice. Encourage your child to read on his/her own, but it's OK to help them out by reading to them as well!!

Children of all ages enjoy being read to and reading to children at an early age encourages them to want to read on their own

In addition to keeping the Reading Journal, students will do projects such as Fan-Fold Display, My Book Box, Story Ball, and Story Map, on at least three of the books which they have read from the Second Grade Summer Reading List. They will bring their summer reading journals and projects to Second Grade when they return to school in the fall. Children will also asked to share their summer reading with their classmates.

Working together we can help each one of our children become good readers!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sutton
First Grade Teacher
