January 19-23, 2009 Knowing Jesus, Growing in Faith, Serving God’s Children
Dear Preschool parents, www.zioncrusaders.org
January is almost over! We always joke that when I’m done teaching about winter and snow, we actually get some again! It still holds true, so far.
A Peek at the Week:
This week in Jesus Time we learn about when Jesus chose 12 disciples, found in Matthew 4:18-22. We learn that Jesus chose His disciples to follow Him and be His helpers here on earth. He also calls us to be His helpers, and He helps us to show love to one another. Our Bible verse is ‘[Jesus says], “Love one another,’ from John 13:34..
Tuesday-We will be switching gears and learning about cowboys/girls and the best of the west as we prepare for the stock show next week. We will be making cactus pictures with lots of texture. We’ll also get to taste some prickly pear cactus jelly! We will learn about the different items of clothing a cowboy wears and why. We will also visit our school library to check out new books.
Thursday-We will make horses—every good cowboy or girl needs a horse! We will also make our own snack, trail mix, of course! We will sit around the “campfire,” sing some lullabies to the cows and “roast” some marshmallows.
If your child is in daycare:
Wednesday-We will have Chapel in the afternoon, led by Mrs. Casey’s kindergarten class. Our Chapel offering for January goes to Bethesda Lutheran Home for mentally challenged students. Feel free to use the little envelope for any offering you might send.
Books of the Week: Kathy Tucker’s Do Cowboys Ride Bikes?
Song of the Week: “”I’m a Little Cowpoke” (sung to “I’m a Little Teapot”
I’m a little cowpoke (point to self), Here is my hat (point to head). Here are my spurs (point to heels) and here are my chaps (pat thighs). As soon as I get up (pretend to stretch and wake up), I work all day (pretend to lasso a cow). I get on my horse (pretend to get on horse) and ride away (gallop around).
From the Teacher’s Desk:
*We will be having Hat Day on Tuesday, due to the fact that we hit our first $300 goal for our $2,000 goal for the Pennies for Patients project. Your child is welcome to bring in money and put in the bucket in our room!
*We will be taking a field trip to the stock show on Thursday, Feb. 5th. We will be leaving the school at 9:10AM. If you would be able to drive, please let me know how many kids you can take and if you have any extra booster seats. Thanks!
*Friday, Feb. 6th will be a PTL Family Swim Night at the Roosevelt Swim Center from 6:30-8PM. Come, swim and have fun with your fellow school families!
Help Wanted:
Now that we have some snow again, it is a great time to help your child learn about getting dressed for the weather. We really try to emphasize what order to put on their snow gear—snowpants first, then boots, then coat and zipper, then hat and mittens. This is a great way to help introduce sequential order and also the vocabulary of first, next, and last.
I pray that you have a fantastic week, knowing that we are blessed far more than we really deserve! Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns!
