January 19-23, 2009 Knowing Jesus, Growing in Faith, Serving God’s Children
Dear Preschool parents, www.zioncrusaders.org
I hope that you enjoyed the day off. We’re starting our week on a day that will go down in history with President Obama’s inauguration.

A Peek at the Week:
This week in Jesus Time we learn about when Jesus was baptized, found in Matthew 3:13-17. We learn that God was pleased that Jesus was baptized for us and He is pleased to make us His children in Baptism. Our Bible verse is “Be baptized and wash your sins away,” from Acts 22:16.
Tuesday-We will learn about animals in winter this week. We will make a den for a bear to hibernate in. We will also learn about different animals that hibernate and sing a song about those animals. We will also visit our school library to check out new books.
Thursday-We will make a bear to hibernate in our dens and bring them home. We will pretend to hibernate and then just as the animals do, have to rely on our sense of smell to find food (in our case, a treat!). We will also attend a presentation on mountain lions in our library.
If your child is in daycare:
Wednesday-We will have Chapel in the morning, led by Pastor Sturzenbecher from Divine Shepherd. Our Chapel offering for January goes to Bethesda Lutheran Home for mentally challenged students. Feel free to use the little envelope for any offering you might send.
Books of the Week: Denise Fleming’s Time to Sleep and Karma Wilson’s Bear Snores On
Song of the Week: “Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear” playground chant
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around. Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground. Teddy bear, teddy bear, show your shoe. Teddy bear, teddy bear, that will do! Teddy bear, teddy bear, go upstairs. Teddy bear, teddy bear, say your prayers. Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn off the light. Teddy bear, teddy bear, say good night!
From the Teacher’s Desk:
*We are working on a new mission project, Pennies for Patients, which helps fund research for kids with leukemia. We actually have an Honored Hero (a child who has fought leukemia and won) in our school, Noah’s sister, Rhiannon. Your child can bring in change and put it in the ice cream bucket. Thanks for helping!
*We will be taking a field trip to the stock show on Thursday, Feb. 5th. We will be leaving the school at 9:10AM. If you would be able to drive, please let me know how many kids you can take and if you have any extra booster seats. Thanks!
*Friday, Feb. 6th will be a PTL Family Swim Night at the Roosevelt Swim Center from 6:30-8PM. Come, swim and have fun with your fellow school families!
Help Wanted:
Winter is a wonderful time to help your child practice putting on their coat by themselves. Some easy ways to help teach this include: if the coat has a hood, put the hood on your child’s head and then they can put both arms in the sleeves; if the coat doesn’t have a hood, you can lay the coat down at your child’s feet with the collar closest to their feet (upside down to your child). They then reach down and put their arms in the sleeves, picking up the coat and flipping it over their head. I know that when you’re in a hurry, it’s easier to just do it for your child, but they are very capable with just a little practice! You can even start the zipper and then let them finish pulling the zipper up to help begin that skill, too.

I pray that you have a fantastic week, knowing that we are blessed far more than we really deserve! Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns!
