December 15-19, 2008 Knowing Jesus, Growing in Faith, Serving God’s Children

Here we are to the last week of school for this year! Unbelievable that it’s already here, but it has been wonderful to see the growth that your child has made in these 3 ½ short months.

This week in Jesus Time we learn about the shepherds worshipping Jesus, found in Luke 2:15-20. We learn that God helps us tell everyone the great Good News of Jesus, who was born to save all people. We will have a Jesus Time with Pastor Chris on Monday morning and we will be lighting our 4th Advent candle on Wednesday, the candle of love.
On Monday we will continue working on our Christmas gifts for our parents—all very secret, you know! We will be visited by our Chapel Buddies who will share some stories with us.
On Wednesday, please help your child bring something that begins with the Letter Kk to school. We will be visiting our school library on Wednesday. We will NOT be checking out books this Wednesday. We hope to have all books returned before Christmas break so we can start January with a clean slate.
We are not having Chapel in the month of December as grades 1-5 are attending the 10AM Advent worship services. We also have Advent services at 7PM if you’d like to come.
We are, however, working on a new mission project—stockings for the Working Against Violence Women and Children’s Center. There are lists of things needed to put into the stockings across from the 4th grade room. Things needed include socks, toothbrushes and toothpaste, lotion and things of the like. We need the items by Wednesday, Dec. 17th.

Our Christmas party will be on Friday, Dec. 19 beginning at 10AM for the AM class and 1:45PM for the PM class. We usually have a special snack, a craft and/or game and then we do our book exchange. Your child will need to bring a wrapped book (no names) for the book exchange. Thanks in advance to all who helped out or brought something—we really appreciate it!

Our last day of school and daycare will be on Friday, December 19. We will have afterschool care until 5:30PM that evening. School and daycare will resume on Monday, January 5th.

If you don’t have a church home of your own, please feel invited to come to the Christmas services here at Zion. Our Sunday School Children’s service will be on Saturday, Dec. 20th at 5:30PM. Our Christmas Eve services will be at 5:30PM and a candlelight service at 10PM. Our Christmas Day service is at 10AM. We will also have a New Year’s Eve service at 5:30PM, that you’re also welcome to come to.

From myself and all the preschool and daycare staff here at Zion, we wish you a very merry and Christ-filled Christmas season—a time to remember that even without presents, cookies or a Christmas tree, there would still be Christmas. But without Jesus, there is no reason to celebrate. God’s blessings to you and your family!
