March 28, 2011 Knowing Jesus, Growing in Faith, Serving God’s Children
Dear Parents,
Enjoy the report cards! Keep up the good work!
As we work on our Resurrection eggs the children have been learning about all the things that happened on that first Holy Week long ago, and why it is so important to us. They will bring these home, along with a little booklet, so they can share the Good News with family over Easter. We’ve completed half of them already. We learn about Jesus on trial this week. Our verse will be Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” This is the last week for our offerings to help buy Bibles for the children of the Ukraine.
Some dates to remember:
*This Friday, no school for teacher in-service.
*April 7th – 9th, PTL consignment sale (Pick up tickets in the office if you want to bring things in)
*Thursday, April 7th – Spring Picture Day for Kindergarten
*Friday, April 15th – Spring Concert at 7PM (all ages and groups will provide music for families)
* April 21st, 22nd, and 25th Easter Break
I have to apologize for not sending home a March Book It! I will send a Book It certificate home with everyone for a pizza because I know how much they are reading now. This was the last month anyway! Thank you all for your participation!
Mrs. Sayles would like everyone to know that we have an excellent series of Christian books for teaching all ages about sex education. If you would like to check them out just see Mrs. Sayles.
We are just reviewing the short vowels a, o, and i this week. Check their guided reading bags nightly, too. There will not always be a new book. Rereading is very important now so they can become more fluent. They should be able to remember what the book is about, telling you the plot and how it ends. Go over the tricky words, maybe covering up the pictures. We have even been doing that some to encourage using the other strategies they know for tricky words. Some of our books now have great helps on the side of the page for parents and teachers to know what to ask. Use them!
During God’s World time we will begin learning about our Circus musical. It will keep us busy the last months of school. We do it with the other class. We have tentatively set the date to present it for Friday, May 6th, about 2:30PM. It is short but very cute! We’ll have many brand new costumes this year. This week they’ll choose what they want to be.
For math we leave geometry for a while and return to counting and addition and subtraction. Continue to try out the geometry tools on the website you received last week, and next week we’ll go back to our math binders with a new game. Another math game to play at night is to just get a small pile of coins and sort them, name them and how much money each is. Even try putting a couple of coins together and figuring how much money that is. Begin with a nickel, dime, or quarter and adding a penny or two.
In gym Mrs. Winjue will have them practicing running and jumping skills for the upcoming track meet in May. It would be a good idea to have good running shoes on every day, as we will practice often. I’ll tell you more about the track meet soon. I believe it is scheduled for May 13th at the School of Mines Track. We have a field trip coming up – to Reptile Gardens. Needless to say, our last quarter will be a very busy one!
God’s blessings,
Roxi
